WMHS Indoor Track First Meet

Camron and Ryan have been practicing hard with the high school indoor team, and will be competeing this Saturday, December 5 at the Louisa Polar Bear Invitational. The meet will be at the Louisa High School outdoor track. Athletes report to WMHS @ 11:00, bus leaves @ 11:15. Jumps start at 1:00, running events @ 1:30. Temperature a high of 42, perfect for the polar bears, not so much the spectators.

Foot Locker South Regional Championship

Ryan is seen here coming up to the finish line. He ended up 6th overall, the first from Virginia, with a time of 17:38. Ben finished 9th, and Grant 12th. Participants in the South Regional came from 14 states, DC, Puerto Rico, and US military installations overseas. Ryan was awarded a gold medal, and named to the Foot Locker "All South Team".

At the 3K mark, Ryan is motoring ahead in sixth place. The USATF Regional Champ, Ben Huffman, is seen at the far left in eighth. Grant Wiggins, last year's record setting winner of the 11-12 race is in tenth, over Ben's shoulder.

Saturday, November 29th at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC the Foot Locker South Regional Cross County Championships were held under beautiful conditions. Ryan ran in the 13-14 age division race, the first year this age group ran the 5K championship course. 69 boys and 42 girls ran together at the 1:15 start.

Region III JO XC Championships

With 300 meters to go, Ryan begins his final kick. Just before the finish line, Ben shifts right and blocks Ryan's final charge. Ben wins with a 13:30.36, and Ryan takes second with 13:30.69. Both boys maintain a 5:26 pace over the championship course.

Shortly after crossing the 2 mile mark in under 11 minutes, Ben Huffman of Charlotte has increased his lead.

As the 4K race nears the first mile mark, Ryan has moved up to second place. The lead group ran the first mile in 5:10.

Saturday, November 21, was a beautiful day in Spartanburg, SC. The Youth Boys' division race featured 72 runners from five states.

Blue Ridge 5K


On Saturday, November 7, the annual Blue Ridge 5K was run at the Blue Ridge School, to benefit the Greene Education Foundation. For the second consecutive year, Ryan placed first overall, with a time of 20:43. The high school cross country course was altered slightly this year, but still proved tough for all participants. Shaun Gainer, the WMHS track coach, placed third overall. Results and amount of monies raised will be posted on the Spring Hill Baptist Church web site this coming week.
