Roddy Kibler moved to Greene County over 30 years ago with a Master’s degree in school psychology, and has served in the county’s school system ever since. On Thursday night, Kibler, now the President and Chairman of the Greene County Athletic Foundation, unveiled the group’s plan to revitalize the school’s athletic and fine arts facilities, and has brought in some heavy help to get the ball rolling.Senators Ed Robb and Russ Potts joined the movement about a year ago, and are ready to embark on a multi-million dollar campaign that will help William Monroe High School and Greene County take extra pride in the area’s high school sports and arts.“A lot of us looked at our athletic facilities over time and hoped that we could offer our young people and our coaches a lot more,” said Kibler, who sent four kids of his own through Greene County public schools. The goals for the campaign consist of the following; constructing restrooms, new dugouts and a press box for the softball and baseball fields, resurfacing a new polyurethane track around the football field, installing tennis courts with lighting (Greene County currently has no public tennis courts), improving the existing bleachers, concession stand and restrooms for the football field and soccer stadium, and completing construction of both the Adam Fargo Memorial Field House — named in honor of a former William Monroe All-district soccer player who was killed in Iraq a few years ago — and the Raymond C. Dingledine Performing Arts Center. The estimated cost for the project is $2.3 million, and the foundation hopes to have everything completed and in use by 2011. The board is comprised of Kibler, Victor Schaff, Rob Lynch, Ray Dingledine, Carroll Deane and Frank Luth.

Junior Olympics Regionals
USATF & AAU
There are two national organizations for youth track & field, USA Track & Field (USATF) and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). Both organizations require an annual membership fee of around twenty dollars for an athlete to participate in their sanctioned meets. USATF has two-year age divisions, while AAU has single year divisions. Division entry is based upon year of birth, and limitation of the number of events that a child may enter in any given meet depends on which division he or she participates in. Both organizations offer athletes the opportunity to excel in national competitions, and both have a Junior Olympic program.
Track meets for both organizations are held from late April to early August, and are predominately located at tracks from Richmond to Virginia Beach. In 2009, we also attended several meets in the Washington DC area. Entry fees for the meet depends on the meet director. Some meets are $5 for four events, the most expensive is $8 per entered event. Although there is generally a meet somewhere every Saturday during the season, we typically take one or two weekends off a month.
Links for both AAU & USATF are on the sidebar.

GCTC Athletes Advance to Junior Olympics
As Posted in The Greene County Record, July 16, 2009:
Two members of the William Monroe Middle School track team have advanced out of the Regional Championships held July 9-12 in Landover, Md. and will compete against the nation’s top youth in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics. Camron Hatchett, 13, placed third in the triple jump and Ryan Thomas, 12, placed second in the 1500 meter run, against athletes from Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. The top three places in each event advance to the nationals championships.
The 43rd USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships will be held at NC A&T University in Greensboro, NC. The USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships is the most visible youth athletic development program in the world. Many of today’s Olympic stars began their track and field careers competing in the Junior Olympic program. Up to 7,000 athletes are expected to participate this year in Greensboro. Entry for this championship is based on advancement at preliminary, state and regional levels. Competition takes place in two-year age divisions, from age 8 to 18.
At the State Championships held in Hampton, VA. June 13-14, Camron placed 8th in the 400 meters, second in the 200 meter hurdles and second in the triple jump. Ryan placed seventh in the 400 meters, fourth in the 800 meters, first in the 1500 meter, and third in the triple jump. Yesaya Iman, also on the WMMS track team, placed seventh at the state championships in the 80 meter hurdles. Kiana Hatchett, a rising first grader at Ruckersville Elementary School, placed sixth in the long jump at the state meet, and advanced to the regional meet.
Independent of the Junior Olympic program, USATF also hosts a National Outdoor Track & Field Championship. This year, the national track meet was held in Ypsilanti, Michigan over the July 4th weekend. Entry in this prestigious event is based solely upon performance standards, and both Ryan and Camron qualified in multiple events. Camron placed third in the nation in the triple jump, and Ryan placed eighth both in the triple jump and the 1500 meters.

Welcome
Welcome to the new Greene County Track Club web site. The GCTC is dedicated to providing general instruction and workouts for school age athletes in Greene and surrounding counties. Participation is voluntary, all we ask is for enthusiasm from the kids that show up. The coaches will endeavor to make it fun for all that show up at practice, while still imparting the fundamentals of track and field. Athletes range in experience from beginners to nationally ranked runners and jumpers. All coaching is done by parents, and there is no cost associated with joining in. Athletes that wish to continue competitively will be given direction, information and training to help them accomplish their goals.
