Coolest Athletes in the World

Hershey Track & Field

Greene County will hold a local qualifier for the Hershey Track & Field program Saturday May 15th. Julius Bates has indicated that he does have a rain date, if needed (Thanks for the info Michele). Coach Hatchett has entries for the Charlottesville/Albemarle one at Monticello High School. You may run in only one local meet. Top two or three in each event advance to Districts and State Championships (all in Charlottesville), with a chance to run in the Nationals in Hershey PA. This program is free to enter, birth certificate required if you move on out of locals. Historically, there is about a hundred athletes competing at the Charlottesville meet. The two times Greene has held it, there has been less than 20 participating.

Next Meet

With the boys having a middle school meet Saturday, May 1, it looks like the following weekend's lineup (May 8) will be the earliest possible USATF meets. The Potomac Valley has the Glen Arden Invitational at the Prince George's Complex. Virginia Association has the Real Deal Classic in Suffolk. Registration for the Real Deal is done on CoachO.com and the deadline is May 4.

Sonic Boom Boom Boom

Wow, what a start for the Greene County Track Club! Congratulations to all of the athletes who have worked so hard at the practices. The first USATF meet of the season was a quite the success, ten awards total (by my account and I left early). Kiana was the top performer, going four for four in her events. Ellie absolutely rocked the 800. Sydney worked so hard, I would not be surprise if she set personal records in every event she entered. She even placed sixth in the long jump! Maddie gutted out the last 100m of the 400 with a burst of speed that truly shows she will be a force in the next meet. All girls jumped extremely well. On the boy's side, Camron went three for three despite being hampered by injuries from the meet the night before. Ryan ran away from the field in the 1500, getting a PR in the process. The first meet of the season is always the foundation to build on for the rest of the summer, and for the Greene County Track Club, the sky is the limit! Great efforts, one and all.

Sonic Boom Invitational

Congratulations to the team in its performance at the Sonic Boom Invitational. Despite the ugly weather, a good time was had by all. Results are not posted during or after this meet, but the overall consensus is that everyone did extremely well. More posts will follow tomorrow. A CD of the pictures I took will be available for sharing at the next practice, feel free to copy the whole disc if you wish.

First Meet

Finally, track season has begun! The first meet is just around the corner, hope everyone is excited. April 24th we will be travelling to Maryland for the Sonic Boom Invitational. Meet info can be found by clicking the link on the sidebar.
What to expect: This will be an all day affair, but by no means do you have to stay for the whole meet. Anticipate 200-400 athletes participating, and sometimes it will be hours between your events. Bring snacks, drinks, a tent, chairs, reading material, PSPs, etc. It is a little over a 2 hour drive to Fort Belvior, and all adults need photo ID to get on the military base. Registration is at 8 to 8:30am. This is the only meet that preregistration is not required. Directions to the Tulley Gate and the track are in the linked document.
